Hello, I just transferred my domain from wordpress.com to wordpress.org using Bluehost hosting. This was successful, and I was able to switch the URL from a temp to my heartreads.com URL. However, when I did this, the “likes” from my Facebook like plugin disappeared on my posts. I imagine this is because of the transfer, but I’m wondering if there’s a way to restore them?
When I contacted Bluehost, they mentioned it will depend on how the “likes” are stored, saying if it is stored in the database it should just be a matter of getting the plugin to recognize the “likes” again. They recommended reaching out to you to determine how you store this information and how (if possible) to get them back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Hi ccontinenza,

    1) A like for a wordpress site is a like for a specific url, but not for the content of a page. The information about these likes is stored in Facebook itself, not on a site. Consequently, if you have changed a url, there won’t be any likes.

2)It is possible, that some connection of ip with url still exists – it is necessary to contact fb support team, maybe they will be able to answer your question, since we haven’t encountered such a problem so far.
Could you possibly have added or removed www from the address? It is also regarded as the address change.

    Sincerely,
    Support Team
