okay — i’ve narrowed the problem down a bit. perhaps someone can now help!
there are three fields on the default comment form, right?
Name
Mail
Website
it will WORK ONLY IF each field is properly used, ie:
Name: Bob
Mail: bob@bob.com
Website: http://www.bob.com
Result: Comment posts.
it will NOT WORK WHEN each field is NOT properly used:
Name: Bob
Mail: Bob
Website: Bob
Result: HTTP 500 Error
it will NOT WORK WHEN ANY of the fields are blank:
Name: Bob
Mail: (Blank)
Website: (Blank)
Result: HTTP 500 Error
This seems to be some kind of coding issue? .. Any ideas or patches?
Do you have WP-SpamFree installed? Then try uncheck the “Include “Website” field”. Works for me.
Cheers.
Gastly Gem…
What version of WP-SpamFree are you using? I am running 1.7.2 and it doesn’t seem to affect it one way or the other.
Updated WP-SpamFree from 1.7.2 to 1.9.6.1 to see if it changed anything.. No go.

When trying to leave comments in a new 2.5 installation, it directs me to a HTTP 500 error.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
a) Switch to default theme to make sure it’s not theme-related. Still doesn’t work.
b) Deleted .HTACCESS, recreated, and used default permalink structure to make sure it’s not permalink related. No dice.
c) Re-installed WP 2.5 fresh with default theme and default permalink structure. Still nothing.
Very puzzling situation as I have a few other 2.5 installs on the same host that dont have this problem. Any ideas?
