How do I upgrade from v1.8.3 to 2.0?

I’d like to upgrade to the latest version, but there is no automatic upgrade link on my installed plugins page for nextgen. For some reason it doesn’t recognize that the plugin is out of date.
Is it possible to upgrade from 1.8.3 to 2.0?
