RSS Feed Missing?

    I’m new to deal with RSS so bear with me if this is basic stuff.
    So, from what I have gathered WordPress runs its own feed service and I shouldn’t have to set anything up.

    However, when I go to the feed url ( http://shephardsummers.com/feed/ ) in the browser I get this :

    It seems to me like I should see some more info here and should see site content not marked up.

    I’ve been tasked with adding an rss subscribe button to this site but I guess I need to sort out the RSS first…?

    Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

    No. What WordPress does is produce RSS feeds from your Posts automatically. RSS is an internationally accepted method of syndicating web site content with its own rules/specifications.

    I get this

    And there is nothing wrong with that. RSS feeds are not meant to be read via a web browser directly but via specialised RSS readers.

    Oh good. So I go forwards with making a subscribe link then.
    Thanks for the info. Thought something was wrong.
    Like I said, new to dealing with RSS.

    No probs. If in doubt, use the W3C Feed Validation Service to check your feed.

    Oh rad! I didn’t even think of looking for a validator.
    So the feed isn’t validating at shephardsummers.com/feed/, but only from specific pages like shephardsummers.com/the-inspired-life/feed/. Which makes sense as these are the pages that the posts come from.

    You wouldn’t happen to know of a way to get every post on the site into feed would you?

    Can you try temporarily switching to the default 2013 theme?

    I figured it out!

    The site was using custom post types and I had to include them into the rss feed in order to see them. Easy fix in the end.

    My feed, http://www.yellowstonetreasures.com/feed/, is not validating at the W3C service. Now I am even getting an internal server error: The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. So I am going to contact my web host, but perhaps you can help me anyway.

    In reading other posts, I gather that there should be a wp-rss2.php file or something like that, but I could not find it. I looked through the .php files without editing them, as far as I know.

    I take it back; the validation works now. But neither Feedly nor Goodreads can consistently find my feed–they say things like nonexistent. What to do?
