• Just wondering how to get multiple sites running off the one linux VPS?
I want to have two different domains (not sub-domains) for each install.

I currently have one site running fine at anythingcricket.com and want to a new wp install to load when entering the URL timhodge.com.au, but I can’t get the DNS to work when pointing it to the same IP address.

I haven’t finished the new wp install as I can’t get it to work. Your help would be much appreciated!

  • it can be done, create a network – http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network and use this plugin to map the domain – http://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/

most important is to back up first

You don’t need a Netowrk unless you want to sites to be “linked”. If they are separate sites that should be kept separate all that’s needed is to set up another virtual host in the Apache config.

    Don’t need them linked.

How do I do the virtual host in apache config?
I have shell access via putty, and FileZilla access to my server and that’s about all I know how to do.

Setting up a virtual host in Apache is way ourside of what these forums can give you, but there’s a lot of resources out there that can help you. As an example

Another option that works better for most users that aren’t full-on command line *nix geeks is to use one of the many graet control panel software packages out there, like cPanel, Plesk, ISPConfig, etc. These make setting up the server, sites and everything else a whole lot easier as well as making your server maintenance a lot eaiser at the same time.
