spliting index.php into header & footer gets error

    Dear,
    To make a theme for wp, I split index.php (which is running normally) into header.php & Footer.php just by cutting & pasting.
    However, when I use function get_header & get_footer, it occurs an error (just in Chrome & IE, Firefox runs normal). There is a blank padding (about 20px) at the top of the page which pushing all the page down a little.
    I don’t know what’s wrong with it.
    Anyone has the same problem?
