Unexpected Behaviors With Jetpack Gallery Widget – please help?

    I tried to use Jetpack’s Gallery Widget and I either simply have no clue how to use it, or I am triggering all varieties of odd behaviors.

    1) Usage of Scaled Down Images vs Thumbnails

    My gallery displays my images as all scaled down versions of the larger image. There is no use of thumbnails whatsoever no matter what option I choose.

    Given the ‘Square Tiles’ option, I had THOUGHT that thumbnails would be enabled in that mode, but apparently, I am wrong.

    Is there any way to set my Gallery Widget to display the images as my chosen thumbnails? And yes, I already have pre-set thumbnails associated with all of the images in question.

    2) Inconsistencies with Square Tiles and Tiles

    Between having 3 to 4 images in my Gallery Widget, the visual display of my Gallery changes and the behaviors of the Square Tiles and the Tiles option also changes.

    — Using 3 Images

    I assumed that the Square Tiles option would display my chosen gallery in a bunch of square tiles displaying my square thumbnails. Wrong. What it does, instead, is show a row of small icons, not all the same width or height.

    The Tiles option, on the other hand, gives me 1 BIGGER thumbnail BELOW 3 SMALLER thumbnails.

    — Using 4 Images

    I assumed that the Square Tiles option would display my chosen gallery in a bunch of square tiles displaying my square thumbnails. Wrong. What it does, instead, is give me 1 BIGGER thumbnail ABOVE 3 SMALLER thumbnails.

    The Tiles option, on the other hand, gives me 4 SMALLER thumbnails (not square) all with the same height.

    What’s going on here?

    Is anyone else having trouble with the Gallery Widget?

    Dangit. I forgot to add that when I try the Circles option, I get OVALS instead of circles.

    That’s correct. Tiled Galleries use Photon to resize your images on the fly. Using thumbnails wouldn’t be ideal, as it would require to create many different thumbnails for each version of the gallery, for each viewport size.

    Photon caches and serves optimized scaled down images, so you do not have to worry about this.

    2) Inconsistencies with Square Tiles and Tiles

    That might be related to your theme. Could you let me know what theme you’re using on your theme?

    This does not seem to be accurate, or something’s wrong. When you right click on one of the supposedly scaled down images and load it in a new tab, it’s the full-size image.

    Does the JetPack Photon feature need to be on for this to work properly?

    Turning on Photon has no effect.

    You can watch the sidebar gallery painstakingly draw onscreen as it paints those large images as little thumbnails.

    Something’s not right.
