Change upload directory (6 posts)

What happens when I change the upload directory?

    • Do all of the images simply point to the new folder and that's it?
    • Do I need to remove and reupload my images manually to update the
    • database?

Simply renaming the upload directory obviously did not create a new directory nor move the files for me...

What exactly is the proper procedure to do this?

    Thanks!

Admin Panel > Options > Miscellaneous > Upload directory.

Not sure what it exactly does, but I would assume it updates the upload location for future uploads, and makes sure the DB still contains the currents uploads.

Hmm... So I suspect when the upload directory is changed, I would then essentially either have two upload folders (the old and the new, to retain the already uploaded images) or I would need to delete and reupload the images in those posts?

Too bad WP can't automate this...

    Anyone else have any info?

Through my experimenting this morning on this, it appears you need to manually change old posts with the new directory structure, but old posts are ok. So as long as you don't mind having uploads in two places on your site, it is ok. Luckily I found this out while setting up a new site, so I can still re-upload my images.
