look into the code of the home page template, possibly front-page.php or home.php or a custom page template made for that static front page (?)

just want to lock some of the thumbnails so public cannot access, is that possible like the example I provided?

I think he went to [Appearance > Editor] and then he edited the Archive.php template (maybe that file differ in your theme structure) and he removed the line that adds link to the posts thumbnails.
But in this way you would not lock some of them but ALL.
