    Hey.

I’m missing my categories. I think it’s since the daylight saving time change. I can’t remember doing anything to the code in several weeks…

I noticed it this morning and upgraded from 2.3.3 to 2.5. My hope was to fix the problem. But it didn’t.

All posts shows as uncategorized. In my admin area no categories shows at all. When I try to add a new I know I had before it just says it’s already there. But it’s not shown. When I add a totally new it adds itself and I can write a new post and assign it to the category. But when I view it its uncategoized. And when I go back to Categories tab in admin it’s all empty again.

    I don’t have a database backup.
Everything in my theme seems to be working fine except for the “categories”.
And I had all plug-ins disabled to check that.

(The theme is a modified default plugin from 2.3.3)

    Thanks in advance.

changing back to the default theme does not solve the problem… it must be something with the database.. :/

I’ve got the same issue. My guess isn’t a corrupt database.. mostly likely a hack job.

wwwandi.. check with your hosting company and find out when your hosting account was last backed up. They might be able to restore your account to a day or so ago when you still had categories.

I just backed up my DB a couple of days ago so I’m restoring from that.

If you do get it restored.. make sure you change all your admin passwords etc..

Get it restored then try upgrading again

    Good luck

I’m having a similar problem. I’m starting from scratch. I installed WordPress on my laptop. I’m running it via MAMP Pro and I’m getting the same problems.

I create categories but can’t seem to assign them to posts. When I go to manage categories it doesn’t list the categories. But on the dashboard it does say “You have 3 posts, 1 page, contained within 7 categories and 0 tags.”

Any help would be appreciated. I’m a WP newbie.

I’ve just developed the same problem. I upgraded to 2.5 several weeks ago, and haven’t made any code modifications in the last several days. I logged on tonight and my categories are gone. On my dashboard, it says I have 26 posts in 7 categories, but they don’t appear in my sidebar, and they don’t appear on the manage categories screen.

This is pretty bizarre, but this morning my categories are back to normal. I haven’t changed anything.

Even more bizarre. Now the problem comes and goes intermittently. Sometimes I check the site and the categories are there, and the next time they might be gone. Everything else is working perfectly as far as I know. I would appreciate it if a few folks would check it and drop me a line to tell me what they see.

I hadn’t noticed this before, but my blogroll also disappears at the same time whenever the categories go away.

I posted my solution to a problem similar to this one. It turned out to be a corrupt table in the DB.

I should have posted this earlier. My problem was also a result of corrupt DB. Had to revert to older backup version and everything is fine now.
