You can use the existing WordPress database.
I run several versions of WordPress off one database. See following for instructions:
http://wiki.wordpress.org/MultipleBlogs
i've already upload all the files to the subdomain ftp. do i need to run /wp-admin/install.php on the subdomain? also, when i go to the subdomain site, i see my own posts there, as in my main domain posts. and when i run /wp-admin/install.php, there's a message saying "You appear to already have WordPress installed. If you would like to reinstall please clear your old database files first."
Please help as I'm really blur.
thanks alot guys...everything's fine now
*hugz* ^_^
Stupid question re http://wiki.wordpress.org/MultipleBlogs :
I've already setup one blog and I used the default table names (I assume wp_ since I didn't change anything). I'm guessing, I can still do additional installs as long as I use something other than wp_ as the table prefix on the extra installs? Am I right or will the use of wp_ prefix on the first install cause a problem?
Second stupid question. Is this going to make any real difference in server load versus just using two separate databases? If two databases is going to work better and keep the information separated better, the time to create a separate database is only about 30 seconds. What if I have visitors to both the main and secondary installs at the same time, will only using a single database cause a conflict?
"can still do additional installs as long as I use something other than wp_ as the table prefix on the extra installs?"
Yes, that's correct.
"Is this going to make any real difference in server load versus just using two separate databases?"
Nothing has ever been reported here about this issue, so I'd say it makes no difference at all.
