Image Upload - "Specified file failed upload test."

    I'm using IE 7.
I did edit the code following http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6443, and it works!

I think it's just something like mistyping when the programmer did the code.

Finally I have managed to clear my problems with the media upload and posting in Wordpress 2.5! thanks to a mix of possible solutions, this is what I did.

    (WINDOWS VISTA, BROWSER IE7)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    1) htacces in website-root should contain:

    <IfModule mod_security.c>
    SecFilterEngine Off
    SecFilterScanPOST Off
    </IfModule>

    2) chmod settings for uploads folder set at: 755

    3) In your admin goto: Settings => Miscellaneous.

set 'Store uploads in this folder' to: wp-content/uploads (do not put a '/' after uploads)

Leave Full URL path to files BLANK.

    4) IE has specific known issues. Download these two files, replace them in your WordPress installation: Download at:

    http://trac.wordpress.org/changeset/7573?format=zip&new=7573

Download the file, unzip and copy the two folders over the exiting folders, it will replace two files with a ',' issue that makes IE7 act up.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

These steps solved the problems with Adding media in the new Wordpress 2.5 for me.

I'm Using Windows Vista and IE7, I really think that there are no server issues for most of the users that cause problems with the media uploads. Probably steps 3) and 4) are the most important!

    Hope it helps for others!

By the way, the 2.5 is a pleasure to work with, and a great leap forward!
Hopefully all users get there problems fixed, it's worth the trouble.

I am new to this and have just upgraded to 2.5 and the trouble begins:

I have no input fields for changing my password from something other than "ituq456&^%7825" as supplied by god.

My install is also doing very insane things when I try to upload using the inline uploader. It puts about 5 copies of an image in my "wp-content" folder with all sorts of wacky names like 500x489-pic, or 150x3245.jpg, or whatever! The last thing I need is to discover 500 photos thrown in there one day! And it is changing all my photo names! I can not have this... period!

Also... why does the inline uploader cause my already coded photos (img src="etc") to disappear when I try to use it to upload photos into a post??? What is the purpose of this thing?

This is all VERY annoying! HELP!

I need any answer thats a little clearer than "at the bottom of the page there are 2 inputs to reset your password" ... which there are NOT!!!!

    Thanks

I am using Firefox 2.0.0.13 and am getting the same error. Whenever I upload a picture using the gallery function it says "An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later." But it doesn't show up afterwards like a few people had said.

If this fix is for IE, Now, I'm having a problem with Firefox. I think the new WP2.5 messed up the admin's upload features.

there is definitely a serious issue with adding images using the new add media option in writing post. I have a completely new fresh install of wp 2.5. I uploaded the pics fine, and I can see them in the Media Library. But when I try to insert the image into the post, it actually inserts the image using the complete file path in the URL (even if you have not mentioned the full path in the misc options), e.g.:

    http://your.blog.com/home/name/path/to/file.jpg

which obviously is the wrong path to the file. This needs to be addressed asap. If anyone already has a fix for this issue, please do share.

I am using FF 2.0.0.13 on WinXP SP2, with no addon conflicts. The blog is hosted on a linux cpanel server. I never had issues with any of the previous wp versions..

I've the same problem... After applying IE patch:

Opera: nothing works, HTML based form and "Specified file failed upload test." message shows up.

IE 7: Flash upload form appears, but whole media upload window is placed on the bottom of the browser window and part of it is hidden...
    Screenshot - http://img167.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wpiely9.jpg

    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

Ok, here's topic about IE7 problems with upload window being cut-off: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/165625?replies=3

As for Opera, using No-flash uploader plugin allows you to upload files, but the preview images of already uploaded files in gallery are ridiculously small: http://img233.imageshack.us/my.php?image=smallgallerywp25dv5.png

I'm still experiencing the error in Firefox: "Specified file failed upload test."

However, when I go to the Media Library tab, the file I uploaded is actually there. It just doesn't show as being uploaded successfully after I do it.

    Any ideas?

Does anyone know how to turn the flash uploader ON? I have two installations of WordPress and one has the flash uploader and is working fine, while the other installation doesn't have the flash uploader and is giving me the errors mentioned in this thread.

    I did the fix: http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6443

but now when I try to upload an image, it says "Crunching" and then I get an error: "An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later."

The image is not loaded. Any thoughts?

For those of you that aren't seeing the Flash media uploader, deactivate all your plugins and reactivate them one by one to see if it makes a difference. The "post template" plugin I had installed was completely messing with the media uploader, but now I can upload/delete images and video just fine.

    System :XP SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.13

I can upload images fine, but once uploaded I can't actually insert them into a post. I just get a blank screen after clicking "insert into post".

Also I cant click on "show" thing
I am able to browse through them in the media library if I go into it through the dashboard... everything seems fine. once I click insert I get a blank screen.

I've cleared the cache. So far no luck and I'm unable to get images into my posts. :((((((((((((((((((

AFTER READ chrisjacobson POST just notice something!!!!

"when i saw ur comment about... (the "post template" plugin I had installed was completely messing with the media uploader, but now I can upload/delete images and video just fine)

now i can use the "Show" thing again, (the problem was the "templete post plugin" but the blank-white screen still :(

Some one help me out plz ! :((((((((((

I tried all the fixes above with Ie7 and I am still having the issure as described. Any ideas?

    Edited:

I am in the process of moving to a new server and all the DNS has not completely propogated yet. I had to upload the patch to both my new AND old server for it to work properly in IE7. Whew!

Hi, I tried the 2commas patch and it worked fine on my computer with the flash uploader, but on my client's computer using the same blog he is still having all the errors! Does this patch work for IE6? I think his computer is using the non-flash uploader, but I'm not sure.

I'm using the FireFox here, and like everyone here it's giving me the "Specified file failed upload test" error message. What's funny, is that I was uploading and seeing the pictures fine yesterday, and then this happened.

    Hi.
I had 2 different problems with WP 2.5 image-upload on IE7 (IE 7.0.5730.11) On Firefox (2.0.0.14) it works perfectly.

The first problem was a permission thing and was solved with chmod 755 on upload folder and the .htaccess mod_security hack.

But I'm stuck with the second one for the last 3 days!
Problem: When I upload the image file, I get an error message and the image doesn't crunch.
BUT it still creates the 3-size files on upload directory.
Unfortunatelly, when I click on gallery or media library, the list only shows the image filename. I can't see any thumbnail. Also, the "show" link is dead. On click, the browser register a javascript error in wp-admin/media-upload.php. The result: I can't include any image on posts.

I've tried everything... all possible fixes. I don't have plugins installed, just plain WP.

    • downloaded WP 2.5 and installed again
    • applied the 2-commas IE7 patch (ticket/6443)
    • downloaded and replaced swfupload files
    • upgraded the flash installed on IE (and FF)
    • tried all combination of the options on "settings > misc"
    • cleared cache, closed browser, restarted the computer several times after each change.

Firefox is fine for me. But the blog/site have a lot of users and they use IE. Also... the "No-Flash-Uploader" didn't work...

I don't know what to do.

I too receive the error "specified file failed upload test".

    In IE7
I receive this error and the picture will not show despite the image successfully being listed in the media gallery. However when trying to load the image to place it into a post nothing happens and I just receive a script error.

    In Firefox
Despite still receiving the "upload test" error, this works as it should and allows me to insert an image into the post.

I've tried both the .htaccess solution and made the changes outlined in the bug tracker but to no avail, the problem persists.

Unfortunately I can't add anything more to it than that and desparately await a fix.

Well with me it wasn't fixed. Still the same problem, but not in all my blogs. Found a nice fix in another thread for firefox. Make sure the wordpresswebsite tab is the only tab in firefox. Close all other tabs. Want to know why, but it's working.
But i want the old uploader back

  28. clyob

It's not fixed for me. I just uploaded Wordpress through my web host - I assume it's the most recent version - and I can't upload any files.

I get that "http" error message someone mentioned.

So - with my heart in my mouth - I opened up the wp-admin/includes/media.php file. What a crowded jumble. No order
to it at all. But I looked through the mess and found one

    debug: false

and it did not have a comma after it.

Next I opened wp-includes/js/swfupload/handlers.js and there
was no code in what was available for my view that remotely
resembled what the fix was. So I don't know what's up.

    I can't fix this - I don't have the technical know-how or
the courage to be going into these program files. I already
corrupted my blog beyond hope just trying to install a different
template and wound up uninstalling the whole thing and starting
    over.

Bottom line: this isn't working for me. Everybody's got a different
idea of what the fix might be. This is giving me an ulcer.

    So I went to blogger.

That works. No, I don't have complete control over it - and
maybe not over content that I want to post for my business -
but at least I can upload a photo.

Ah, one more thing - it's not like I spent twenty minutes on trying to get this blog to work right. I spent the whole day. Ten hours trying one thing and then another, reading the forums - ENOUGH!

  30. clyob

To be crystal clear, the version uploaded from Wordpress.com - that has
different templates to choose from - I can upload photos in that, but I CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH THEM. I can't insert them in a post. They sit in the media file, unaccessible.

Regarding the blog software that I uploaded to my website directly so I have a WordPress blog in "mydomain.com/blog" -I can't upload photos in that at all.

The white upload box opens, I select my file for upload, I get a message that says it is "crunching" the data, but then that "http"
error message appears and a button that says "DISMISS" appears on
the upload box so that there is no other option except to abort the upload.
