Panic about blog move (2 posts)

Hi. Here is the situation. I read the Codex and it says when I am moving an old blog to do an export and then an import. What has happened though is that our host suspended the site for excessive server usage and wants me to rectify the situation, but will not give me access to the site to get in and change the wordpress settings. They cannot seem to understand that I need to get INTO wordpress to change settings to fix things.

So anyway. I am locked out of the site, out of the admin panel. This has been going on for four days now but I cannot get a tech support person who will listen to me.

So, I have been able to get to the phpmyadmin on the old site and create a database backup. Will I be able to restore from that database if I recreate the blog somewhere else or is the only way to move a blog is with that "export"?

Thanks for your help. Truly. I am about ready to start crying so go easy on me if this is a stupid question.

If you have the database backup from phpMyAdmin, you can restore that directly to the new blog location via phpMyAdmin. I've done it many times -- I don't use the WP admin panel for this purpose at all.

Of course, the other half of the equation is that you successfully transferred all your WordPress files to the new site.

You might find these sections from the Codex helpful:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Database

PS Who was your (old) hosting service? Sounds like one to avoid.
