I am very new to wordpress (sept 26th) and previously used dreamweaver to make my basic html website on archery tips.

I have been researching and reading posts regarding seo, silos, wordpress, and other information while changing my old site (html) to my new site (wordpress/php). I am trying not to lose traffic as a result of the move; if anything I want to increase traffic with the new better site.

I am looking for advice before I swap out the old site with the new. Is my new site structured well? Is the silo structure good? Am I missing anything important? The only thing left on my checklist is to add content to my silo landing pages (main topics in my menu)

    old site = http://www.shootingtime.com
    new site = http://www.shootingtime.com/new

Any and all advice will be very appreciated!
    Thanks guys,
    Corey

  • From a quick glance your new site is well organized and looks like high quality content that Google will like. That being said I’m not a SEO expert so I can’t tell you well you are doing SEO-wise.

I do know however that you can transfer your SEO juice from your old site by using a 301 redirect. To do that you would write these rules in your .htaccess file:

    Redirect 301 /oldpage.html http://www.yoursite.com/newpage.html
    Redirect 301 /oldpage2.html http://www.yoursite.com/folder/

Finally I see that you are building a niche site. Many niche site owners create their site and forget about it, which is a danger. Keep in mind that you must always apply WordPress updates or your site is at risk of getting hacked. All your SEO work will go down the drain if your site gets hacked and Google blacklists your site.

    Good luck

Thank you very much for your response and time blogjunkie! I actually went live with the new version of the website last night, took care of my redirects, and am hoping the changes I’ve made will increase my traffic.

    Thanks again,
    Corey

Webmaster used wordpress site to build new site now live, weddingwishes.com. Who can advise or implement new seo. I do not know what needs to be done, or by whom. Will seo from old site transfer to new site?
