Hi,
I have had several complaints from readers that my site loads very very slowly and I can't figure out how to fix it. I have large header images, but they are part of the theme. I know my version of Wordpress needs to be updated, but I'm a novice at computer stuff and am worried I will screw my site up so I haven't done it yet. Is the old version slowing down my site?

Thanks so much,

the images in your posts are gigantic. do you really need 1600x1200px images?
I guess I could change the setting on my camera to a lower pixel number, but are you just talking about the header images or all my images? And if so, how can I fix it if the pics are all already on there?

As boober has mentioned, the only major issue I can see is that the images you are posting are 1600x1200px most are about 0.5mb in size.
The best idea is to have a thumbnail as a preview, and link it to the full size image
Do I need to do this for every single one of my images? Surely there is an easier way?
something more is wrong though, the homepage document itself is whats taking a ton of time to load. check it out

Hmmm, who would know what to look at to try and fix that? That must be the main problem from the look of it.

This might fix your problem. From the admin interface go to WassUp -> options -> statistics recording. If Enable/Disable spam check on records is checked try un-checking the box. Alternatively you could try updating to the latest version of WassUp and see if that solves the issue.
you seem to also have two of those little smiley faces at the bottom of your site from stats.wordpress.com
i donno why
Hmm, I don't know about the two smiley faces, but I unchecked the Enable/Disable box on WassUp and it seems to be loading faster for me, but it was never very slow for my computer, so I don't know if it's fixed.
Anyone know about the smileys?
loads super fast for me now.
Loads nice and fast for me too. And before we get yet another thread dedicated to "omg what are those smiley faces doing on my blog?" it's the wp-stats plugin you're using although I don't know why you've got 2 of them. (mr.smileys)
Thanks so much for the help! I'm not going to worry about the double smileys for now unless I run into some other weird problem. My site will just be extra happy.
