  • Woahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
    Global settings reset on me!

Since I have an email alerts plugin, I received emails out of the blue at 7:52am telling me that a number of posts were published — they were all the pagelines posts, entitled “Pagelines” “Drag & Drop Design” “Design Control” “Page-by-page Design” “Pagelines Store”.

Went to my site and saw all my global settings have reset to defaults.

What a pain in the butt!

Would this have been caused by WordPress’s new auto-theme-update process? Or was this somehow done remotely by pagelines accidentally? Please. This cannot happen again.

  • Wow. Unlucky. I’m not sure exactly what happened but it sounds like you have not set up a Child Theme. This prevents all the changes that you’ve made from being rewritten when the theme updates. It’s very easy to do. Just add the plug in ‘One Click Child Theme’, activate it and then go to Appearance > Child Theme and add in a new child theme (call it what you like). Now when you make changes, you’re safe.

It’s true, I never did set up a child-theme for this site. So I will do that.

But still, I wonder why this happened.
When you update Pagelines manually, the global settings don’t reset. And it looks like the latest version of the theme came out in June. So I can’t see why an auto-update would have occurred. (Is the auto-theme-update even an available feature yet?)
