    Hi MDeb,

So, first thing I would check is a theme and plugin conflict to see if there’s something stopping BD from outputting the listings. Here is an article about how to test for theme and plugin conflicts with Business Directory, which may help pinpoint the issue: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/faq/how-to-check-for-plugin-and-theme-conflicts-with-bd/

Try that and report back so we can start from some knowledge of the cause.

Thank you for the prompt reply……

I checked and there is no conflict with plugins but the theme. I am using Alexandria theme.

Once I switched over to the default twenty-twelve theme it showed up!!

What do I do? I really want to preserve the look of the theme.

    Hi MDeb,

If there is a problem with the display of the theme, it could be from any of these:
    – A jQuery conflict, where the theme is loading an old version (BD uses the loaded version from WP or whatever the theme pulls in, so the theme must do the “right thing” here for us to work)
    – A JavaScript conflict within the theme (something they’ve done to prevent the dynamic loading of pages)
    – Improper HTML, such as unclosed tags, unmatched tags, or oddly structured things with invalid properties (this can be verified using an HTML validator on a blank page where you check the output to see if it’s OK)

But whichever it is, you’ll need to bring that to the theme developer’s attention, since we don’t have the bandwidth to support 3rd party themes. Alternately, you can hire a developer to take a closer look. We write BD with theme compatibility in mind and follow all recommended best practices for using the WP API, and that’s why it’s working with TwentyTwelve just fine.

    Thank you.

I shall try and contact the theme developer on this.

I could not get any reply from the developer and had to change the theme and its working perfectly now.

    Thanks!!

But there seems to be another problem. I cannot seem to find the shortcode to display only the categories or listings on the page. Is there any turnaround for this?

Also, is it possible to have the categories show up on the widget bar? If so, how? I could not find any shortcode or widget for this as well.

    Hi MDeb,

You can use the Tags/Categories widget to show BD categories and tags now. No new widget required. You’ll need to select our post type on there instead of regular posts.

There is a shortcode for category display and you can read about it here: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/faq/valid-bd-shortcodes-2-1/

Our full documentation is also available here which contains a lot of information you may find helpful: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/docs.
