I’m having trouble with my site travelswithmiranda.ca, images are not loading even though the links are correct and the images are where they’re supposed to be.

Posts and pages weren’t showing up, so I reset the permalinks structure and that fixed that problem, but images are still not there. This includes the theme itself, none of the images are showing. I have done a lot of customization to this theme, so starting over isn’t an option.

The site worked great a couple of weeks ago. All I’ve done since is add a caching plugin. I removed that, but I’m still not seeing the images.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Rae

  • The images are present and there’s no obvious permissions issue but they don’t seem to be loading with the theme. Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

I don’t dare change the theme in case I lose my settings, but I just deactivated all plugins and then tried to preview the site with the 2013 theme. The preview showed the same problem, no images had loaded.

    Thanks for the quick reply,

There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

Do you want to locate and, hopefully, fix the problem on your site? If “yes”, then please help us to help you and carry out the changes that we suggest.

Your theme & plugin settings are saved in your database and should be retained for future use.

Done. I’m not seeing the 2013 theme, though. And, yes, I’m looking at it through fresh eyes. I never use Safari so I loaded it up there (rather than Firefox) and I’m still seeing the site as though the Originative theme was still active. I emptied the Safari cache, too, just in case and that didn’t help.

    Site URL?

If you cannot change themes via the Dashboard, you’ll need to do so using FTP or Cpanel to rename your theme’s folder.

I gave the site url in my first post, travelswithmiranda.ca.

It is now showing the 2013 theme. Still no images.

Try clearing SuperCache plugin’s cache and then deactivating it.

    Done. Didn’t help.

Check that anti-hotlinking isn’t enabled in your hosting account. If it is, try disabling it.

I see images on this post:

    Try clearing your browser cache.

Ah, anti-hotlinking was enabled! I didn’t even know I had such an option (found it through search on the control panel), so no idea how that got enabled unless my hosts did it. That seems to have done the trick, thank you!!!

    Excellent! 🙂
