    Hello,

I am having such a tough time finding a video player that simply plays YouTube videos. I have tried pretty much all of the plugins on the list. But, none of them worked properly. Two of them played but have major issues, so I can’t use them.

One consistent problem is that videos just won’t play. It is either totally blank or gets an error message. I used both “youtube.com” and “youtu.be.com” formats. I believe it is not there; not connected. No video.

Is there anything wrong with my theme (My Life), or something I can do about it?

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

  • You should not need a plugin to play YouTube videos – see:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds

Can you post a link to your site where there is a video that won’t play?

Have you tried deactivating all plugins and switching to the default theme to see if the video works there?

    OK . . .

I have deactivated teh only plugin that played (but has some issues), and tried the WP method, simply copying the URL address of a YouTube video. I have deleted all other video player I have trine, except the ones that comes with TinyMCE plugin, which did not work either.

On the test page I am giving you the link, the blank player is with WP YouTube Player plugin, and below, you will see the video URL I typed in to the editor. It is not connecting to the video.

I am getting very weary of this video player problem. Hope you can help me. Or, I will have to try another theme, which I would hate to do . . .

    Thanks.

This link does not seem to be valid:

Can you post the URL for the video you are trying to post? It also looks like that theme using post types – and you are using the Aside type – have you tried the video type?

is the correct one, and now it is playing. In the massive confusion, some how I messed it up. Oy Vey.

But, the one below, is still not showing. Did I do it wrong? That is why I started looking for a player.

Here is what the codex says about Embed:

All you need to do to embed something into a post or page is to post the URL to it into your content area. Make sure that the URL is on its own line and not hyperlinked (clickable when viewing the post).

    For example:

    Check out this cool video:

    That was a cool video.

    Never worked for me. ???

I just put that link in a video post-format post using My Life theme and it worked fine for me – so not sure what’s going on with yours.

    What would you suggest?

I thought you said yours was working? I don’t see any second video on that page.

Also, are you using the Video post format?

I am sorry, what is the video post format?

As I copied above, the codex says you can just type the URL without linking.

That’s what I did below the video that is showing. You see jut the URL there.

Actually, I just tried your link on my test site using the Aside post format and it worked fine.

Do be sure that you are not switching between text and visual editors – that tends to corrupt code.

Try again in a new post – get the link from the YouTube page so you know it’s correct and not corrupted.

I put another one up with ProPlayer, and again, it is not playing.

It shows a picture, but does not play. This is the pattern.

Where am I supposed to type the URL:
    Text or Visual?

The instruction says just “content area.”

I think there is something really wrong with my set up. Plugin conflict? file corruption? host issue . . ??? I don’t know. I am not advanced enough to even investigate.

Do I have to start all over?

Start by deactivating ALL plugins. You don’t need to use a player plugin for YouTube-hosted videos.

I just tested you video link in both the text and visual editors – works fine.

With all plugins deactivated, try putting the YouTube link in a new post.

You still are not telling me where to put it.

    Text or Visual?

And, that’s a drastic thing to do for me to deactivate everything and try the video player. I don’t even know what I am doing now. I am really afraid that I would mess things up even more. If I cannot use the built in video player, so be it. At least one player plugin is working. I use a different one for Vimeo.

Will this be easier if I pay for a theme? Is there a video friendly theme?

    What a mess!

I have spent all day just for this problem and can’t do it any longer. I appreciate your help, but WP has a long way to go to be user friendly, especially for non-geek users like me.

You can use either visual or text.

There’s nothing wrong with this theme – I’ve tried it just now.

I don’t understand why you are using a plugin for the supported videos. Using more than one player plugin at a time may well be causing problems. In any case, if you have a problem with a plugin, you need to ask on the plugin’s own forum. I see you’ve already done that – at least for some.

But it’s standard troubleshooting to deactivate plugins if you think you have a plugin conflict. There isn’t a quicker way to track those down.

But going back to what I posted above, WITHOUT any player plugins,

Do be sure that you are not switching between text and visual editors – that tends to corrupt code.

Try again in a new post – get the link from the YouTube page so you know it’s correct and not corrupted.

    Thank you.

Supported Video Player never worked for me.

Plugin support never answered my question. They are bad . . .
