If you back it up manually does it work? If it works, it might mean there is some conflict or simply the WordPress cron is not working on your end.
Yes it works manually. Hmm I wonder if it is hostgator. They have really gone downhill since they sold to EIG. All kinds of things are going wrong for people. I am leaving them shortly.
Try using a Cron plugin like http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-crontrol/ to see if the backup is scheduled.
I’ve the same problem. I’d installed the WP Control and I can see three process:
dbmanager_cron_backup [] 2013/10/18 15:10:32 (2 hours 1 minute) 1 day
dbmanager_cron_optimize [] 2013/10/18 13:07:32 (now) 3 days
dbmanager_cron_repair [] 2013/10/18 15:09:32 (2 hours) 2 weeks
I’d tried to change the schedule time or run manually, from the plugin, but doesn’t work. If I do the manually back up, works fine.
I have installed this plugin on others websites and everything works without any problem.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Kind regards.

Hi Lester- I am still finding this more and more as I login to clients websites for other things, I am now checking their backups and I am finding nothing for months.
I need to install that plugin you told me about.
Just wanted to update for anyone else looking into this same problem.
Manually it works fine but the it is not running the set up auto backups.
Linda Lee –
I’m having the same issues. I have installed the Lester’s plugin and can manually backup (to host and also backup to email), manually optimize and repair the database, however, it’s not running the scheduled backup to be sent to my specified email address. It has worked using my host in the past. I have installed wp control as suggested by Lester, and it does confirm that the scheduled jobs are set.
I am still having this problem with clients websites. It shows everything as green and good to go and yet database backup fails.
Any ideas?
