Support » Fixing WordPress » Gallery will not save

  • I have a photographers website that uses the photocrati theme. For over three years I have been able to upload images to galleries and save them regardless of number of images in the gallery. For the past 2 1/2 months I have been unable to save a gallery that has more than 55 images. An error on the page shows “connection lost – unable to save”. I am able to upload unlimited images using the add media feature but this type of gallery does not meet my needs. I spent a month with photocrati support and they felt it was a hosting problem. I’ve spent another month with godaddy support trying various fixes (increasing post size, memory size, and timeout in php5.ini), with them ultimately blaming wordpress. I have even bought a new modem and router to insure it wasn’t a connection problem on my end. Has anyone else run into this problem? Please Help!

  • How long ago have you been dealing with GoDaddy? You may want to read this thread –

    godaddy has always been my host, so far I’ve had minimal issues
    Any ideas, or have you heard of a similar problem?

    Did you read the thread I linked to above?

    yes, but I’d like to try to resolve the problem before I migrate to a new host

    I am able to upload unlimited images using the add media feature but this type of gallery does not meet my needs.

    Do you have this issue using a default WP theme and NO plugins?

    I have not used any default wp themes. Photocrati is designed for photographers.

    There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

    Do you want to locate and, hopefully, fix the problem on your site? If “yes”, then please help us to help you and carry out the changes that we suggest.

    Your theme & plugin settings are saved in your database and should be retained for future use.

    ok…I have tried all suggestions made so far. I have tried flushing my cache; different browsers; different themes with no plugins; nothing has worked. I spent about 10 hours over the last couple days with godaddy support. Although they were very helpful; they could not resolve the issue. They even white listed my site so their new mod security would not interfere with my saving. I’ve read numerous threads on here and tried each of their suggestions. Bottom line, 3.6 has caused many people alot of frustration. I’m resolved to hoping that it will be fixed in the next update.

    3.7 did nothing to address the problem

    Time for more in-depth debugging then. Can you recreate your site on a local testing server? Use WAMP/MAMP to build a similar server stack as your hosting, create a database, and install a fresh WordPress install.

    Then in you wp-config.php add the following code just before the /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */ line:

    /* WordPress debug mode for developers. */
    define( 'WP_DEBUG',         true );
    define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG',     true );
    define( 'WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false );

    Next install the Developer plugin and enable the debug bar and other developer plugin tools.

    Next, install your photography theme and import your data from your live site to your local testing site and start testing and debugging.
