Hey, I’d strongly suggest you to try out the ‘Regenerate Thumbnails’ plugin. It’s fairly simple to use and should hopefully help you out finding the correct ones.
Let me know if this helped you out or if you need additional assistance, since I’ll be more than glad to help you out! Take care & have a nice weekend ahead!
Best,
Silvo
Thanks for the tip about the thumbnail re-generator Silvo. I have that plugin and had already tried it, but I ran it again to be sure and still no luck.
It seems like the problem is either the png file type or orphaned database records which hold reference to the [now deleted] old thumbnails. I don’t know enough about what goes on under the hood to lean either way.
I have not tried deleting the featured png image and adding it back as there are about 50 affected posts. This is a fallback option I guess but not my first or second choice.
Thanks for your help!
Hey, big thanks for getting back to us with such detailed feedback. But for now we can only assume what could be going wrong, and the options are not limited, I’m afraid to say.
But we are very eager to investigate further, for which we would need your help, if possible.
We were wondering if there’s a chance that you could send us your WP Dashboard’s credentials, so that we could take a closer look? We can completely understand if you’re not comfortable with sharing this with us, but I’m afraid this might be the only viable solution for us right now, since we cannot access that broken window in any other way. It also goes without saying that your privacy is to our upmost concern, after which we will take all the extra precaution possible.
Let us know what you think and we’ll do our best to help you out! I’m looking forward to your reply! Here’s my email address: support[at]zemanta[dot]com
Take care & have a nice day!
Best,
Silvo
Silvo – I replied directly to you by email, thank you! For anyone else who might benefit from this topic, my reply (in part) was as follows:
——
The thumbnail issue is isolated to a single category and if you view this category on the main page you’ll see every post shares the same image as its featured image, a 48×48 png image. I failed to mention (sorry) that until last week this featured image was larger (175×175). I replaced it with a smaller version so that it would display better on the main page.
On the post pages, you can clearly see missing images in the Related Posts plugin. There are 6 broken image references and each one should be of the png image.
After typing this up it occurs to me that the real issue might be the small size (48×48) of my featured image. It is already thumbnail size, perhaps that’s why the thumbnail generation is passing it over. Still… I ought to see the default thumbnails and not the broken image links, right?
Do you have any idea why the Related Posts images are pointing to the static images in your plugin directory? The post title and excerpt are showing / linking correctly though.

Hey Dino, thanks for reaching out, I’ll gladly help!
Seems as if you aren’t getting your correct thumbnails, right? Any chance you could send us the link to the blog in question, so that we could have a closer look? I’m sure that this way we’ll be able to help you out much more effectively (hopefully)!
Looking forward to your reply! Take care & have a nice weekend ahead!
Best,
Silvo
For the benefit of anyone else who stumbles into this thread…
1. The support for this free product is amazing.
2. The thumbnailer is not capable of creating a thumbnail for any image less than 151px in width or height.
Hello, I installed the current version of the plug-in and use a theme that has images in 16:9 ratio with so different from the standard.
I find the images in “related posts” distorted therefore unusable.
It’s possible, as was done for the theme, change the size of the images to match those charged by me and to avoid distortions?
Because the plug-in does not make a crop?
If it is possible to vary the size of the box image at each update of the plug-.in what happens?
Thank you for your help.
