I still wonder what is the practical purpose of using this plugin.

Is it to hide some certain posts from displaying on the blog but still available in RSS?

WHAT plugin? Can you link to the plugin at issue rather than gratuitously linking to your SITE (which should be in your profile).

jonimueller: The post is about advanced category excluder plugin (you can see it in the tags at the top).

Unfortunately when people click to comment from the Extend/Plugins page, it doesn't link back to the page & looks like people are being vague. From the user side it looks as though they are clearly commenting on the plugin.

binh: Afraid I can't help, sorry. Hopefully the plugin author will spot the comment and get back to you :)

mutube, I posted this little grievance/bug/anomaly in Matt's suggestion box (not Kvetch but the other one). I've seen this quite a bit lately. :-)

Binh, most people use this plugin, to enable some kind of CMS functionality. To tell the truth I wrote that plugin, because sometimes I write articles which are technical, and I don't want to mix it with my personal posts, but I don't want to maintain another blog.

Another thing could be sectional use. So you can write posts, that does not appear on the front, only in category listing, and search, RSS and so on.

I'm not sure why one would bother asking a question like this.

If you don't find a plugin useful, it's as easy as not using it.

Conversely, I'll take a second to thank ANY and ALL plugin authors for their time and effort to contributing to the flexibility and power of wordpress.

    Ivovic,
as a plugin author I must say, that I'm glad for ALL of you, who find them useful, and use them.

I find the ACE plugin very useful to suppress certain posts from going out on the RSS feed.

Thanks djzone for the plugin. I have exactly your kind of needs and I have been searching for a way to go for weeks & read through over a hundred pages. Now I found you. Imagine how happy I am : )

I am going to install your ACE on WP2.5 and shall see if they will live happily together : )

    technical vs personal posts

Spent an hour playing with my new 2.5 and the ACE. It looks like that the segmentation of content is only basically an on/off switch. So it may be useful if your site has only two groups of content. It does not give a third option...

I plan to have tens of categories. Can ACE handles this kind of content separation? Any suggestion?

if you have soo many different categories, why not try wordpress-mu
it is easy to set up millions of blogs from the same domain...cos it's the same concept as wordpress.com, only for your own domain... so fewer restrictions... and you can admin it yourself...
i use it and like it a lot. the only small problem you might have is that it hasn't made its way up to 2.5 functionality and design yet

wordpress-mu needs you to admin each blog on its own. If I have 20 blogs, I may need to login 20 times a day, say, reading StatPress report and add content to some of them...

Wishing to have a single login to manage tens of content groups.

yeah. you can admin of all the blogs on there with one login.
it's up to you, but i dont mind going into different sections for the different blogs. if anything it helps to keep everything seperate.
because i know the individual directories for the differnt blogs, i can change admin panels simply by changing something like http://www.example.com/blog1/wp-admin/plugins.php to http://www.example.com/blog2/wp-admin/plugins.php simply via the address bar. this should also work going from http://blog1.example.com/wp-admin/plugins.php to http://blog2.example.com/wp-admin/plugins.php
if you're prepared to work with it will work with you.
setup is as easy as normal wordpress. as i say though, my only annoyance is an absence of wp2.5, but i think they're working on that at the moment.

I am trying to evaluate every possible approach to-date and make a conclusion this month.

I discovered this plugin and it described what I am looking for:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/super-categories

The Super Category plugin allows you to have multiple websites running off of one install and one database (one set of tables). The websites can share content if you wish it, and can have different titles, descriptions and themes.

I don't need sharing content but it implies to me one single login for all content.

Too bad the plugin has stopped development, nor I have ever succeeded installing it on my WP2.5.

From its tag I also found:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/multiply/

Multiply is a plugin for WordPress 1.5.x which allows multiple blogs from within the one administration interface. Includes one-click creation of new blogs, with per-blog user permissions, themes etc.

It is exactly what I need. Again the project is no longer maintained upto WP2.3 and the author recommends using WP MU.

Anyone know of a similar plugin? Or I will just give up from there...

that's two of us saying wpmu, and no one really advising anything else. just demo it, both for what you want on this blog, and the other multi-group blog. you might be pleasantly surprised

OK djzone, I got what you mean :) I'm glad that you wrote the plugin. I don't really have to use it. If I need to write something like you mentioned, I'd rather write a page. I do agree with you that the plugin is useful for your situation.

I hope everyone else enjoy the plugin. And I myself whenever have a chance, I will use it too :)

this thread got me to thinking about how to set up the evolution of my site. i am using v2.7 with a theme that really works for me. so going to MU may or may not work at this point in time. so here is my question and maybe someone can give me a bit of insight...

trying to find a way to split my site into two distinct sections that link to each other. the different sections offer different features/different post layouts. same database.

    1) is there a way to have optional layouts for a post?
    option 1 ( default) = header 1, sidebar 1
    option 2 = header 2, sidebar 2

    OR
2a) two sites using same theme but have same domain name and reader slips seamlessly (unknowingly) from one site to the other

    OR
    2b) slightly different domain name ( domain.com, domain-search.com )

oops - don't like this thread title. will try to pick this up on new thread...
