• I put that i was using wp 2.0 but i have no idea.

Basically, i’ve been using the free wp blog for a a few weeks and knew my way around it pretty well. I kept hearing about these great plugins and ‘all you had to do’ was get a host.

So i got a host and now ive found myself in a world that i have no clue about & my blog is suffering.

Basically, i’m a total novice…no idea about ftps, etc.

    Here are my specific issues:

    1. My old WP theme was no longer avail after getting the host so i had to get a new one. Problem is i want my old custom header back using a jpeg file (saved to kubrikr and got lost in confusion after that)

    2. I’ve downloaded all these plug-ins & activated them but have no clue how to find them to use them in my blog

    3. My old free blog had my avatar in the sidebar as Author, i saw no way to add this in my new blog

    4. Once the content of my old blog was transferred to my new theme & host site, I lost my You Tube videos that were embedded in my existing posts (big problem). I tried pasting the code back in, and nothing works

I basically dont know how to do anything anymore and the forums seem to address a few of these issues but often in an language for the ‘advanced’ user. PLEASE HELP!!

  • 1) Not all WordPress themes work with every version of WordPress. Yours may have become outdated and removed. You can check themes.wordpress.net for additional free themes, perhaps you will even come across an updated version of your theme again.

    2) Every plugin is different and some of the old ones may cause problems, so make sure you choose recent plugins and only install ones which you need. Watch for new tabs or options under the manage, settings, design, or other such pages. Oftentimes plugins add their features or the ability to use that plugin to an existing field in your WordPress admin panel.

    3) This depends on two things. First, your user settings. You will need to upload an avatar for your user. Second is the theme. Some themes will not allow this option without some advanced configuration. You may be able to find a plugin that will do it for you, though: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

    4) The older versions of WordPress did not come with the ability to use video. While the newer ones do, you likely had an older version with a plugin. Without that plugin, simply having those links will not work. You can install an version of WordPress from 1.5 onward and have that ability, and/or you can get a plugin to do it for you: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/
