  • I’m having the same issue as detailed here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/trackback-and-500-internal-server-error

In my error logs I see some 500 errors for trackback requests. The one particular request I’m looking at, there is a GET request for the page, followed by a POST request to the trackback URI for the page. So, possibly a spam request. I do have akismet and stop spammer registration plugins installed, but I can’t see that they reply to spam requests with a 500 response.

I tried a manual trackback request as detailed here: http://archive.cweiske.de/trackback/trackback-1.2.html and that worked fine (200 http response and xml body with error 0). In my logs I see mostly 200 responses and 403 responses (presumably this is the response code used for spam requests) for trackbacks.

In my blog settings, link notifications from other blogs is disabled.

In the site error logs, there was no entry at the timepoint recorded for the trackback request that generated a 500 response. (Indicating it was probably a soft 500 rather than a true internal server error).

So it is very difficult for me to track down why some trackback requests are getting a 500 response. Does anyone have any ideas that could help me debug this issue?
