[resolved] WP Stats - API Key Lockout (14 posts)

    Hi -

Just tried to use Wordpress.com Stats. I entered my old askimet key (which I use on a number of different blogs) ... anyway, after I entered it I realized you have to LOGIN to wordpress.com with that account to view the stats ... which I don't want to do with that account, so I created a new wordpress.com account for my stats and got a new API key but now I get the error:

Error from last API Key attempt:

The owner of that API Key (rlshow) is not on the access list for this blog. When this blog was registered, henryflower's API key was used. To add you to the access list, henryflower must visit this blog's stats dashboard page and use the form at the bottom of that page.

I have tried to do what it suggests (though I find the directions confusing: I have logged into Wordpress.com and gone to my stats section, but I don't see any "form at the bottom of that page" to use.

Can anyone help me reset my API so I can start over with the new one ?

    Thanks,
    Damon

I have the same problem. Everything worked great, I loved the stats I was getting. Then I set up a second blog and when I did, I could no longer log into the first one. I have 3 different logins for Wordpress (got mixed up somewhere) and none of them work.

The same for me as well. Seems like a nice plugin but what a headache. This has to be the hardest plugin I have came across.

I wonder why it says this topic is resolved? Up at the top. No one has posted an answer.

Have you tried again lately? All of a sudden, I was able to enter the API key and everything works now.

I got locked out today - I disabled the plugin, and maybe I'll try it again later? I have no idea what would cause the plugin to spontaneously work/unlock? Any clues on what you might have/have not done, dhanchey?

    Hi,
I had the same problem, here's how I solved it. Wordpress’ instructions are incomplete:

    1) The owner of that API Key (ivanmh) is not on the access list for this blog. When this blog was registered, (portorreal)’s API key was used. To add you to the access list, (portorreal) must visit this blog’s stats dashboard page and use the form at the bottom of that page…

    2) Once (portorreal) add (ivanmh) to the access list, (portorreal) must upgrade (ivanmh) as administrator.

    3) Then (ivanmh) should go and activate the plug in and enter his api key. There will be no “error” messages anymore.

    4) the final step should be to ask (portorreal) to visit the blog’s stats dashboard page once again and click on the “leave the blog” icon. That should do it…

I have a similar problem. What happened is that a friend set up my blog and he used his API key but he can't give me his wordpress login. So I can't log in...and my own account doesn't work.

Whoever wrote stats gets a freaking standing ovation from me.

Needless to say, I'm in the same boat. I used the proper key, but it decided to lock me out anyways ! It's a piece of work. It's surprising and sad that no one has offered any solutions in a month. I will dig more and see if anyone else has an answer ...

The real question is why anybody is posting here about it.

This is a WordPress.com issue. Only wordpress.com people can fix it. Posting here about it is an exercise in futility.
