Custom sort for taxonomy terms

Is there a way to change the sort order of terms (tags) within a custom taxonomy? I don’t mean ASC, DESC etc but a completely custom order.

I’ve used a plugin to do this with page (pageMash) where you drag & drop the pages into the desired order and click to update the database. I’m thinking there may be a similar way to achieve the same thing with tags.

Maybe one approach would be to somehow change the dates the tags had been added and the choose to order them by the most recent to oldest? I don’t know how one would achieve this though!
