• Hello,
If I have Apache, PHP, MySQL installed do I need WAMP installed also?
I followed along and installed the 3 above. And it was working. Then read where you need WAMP installed to run wordpress. Went to install it and only comes with all 3 additional items. So downloaded it and ofcourse it’s not working.

So do I have to uninstall apache, php, & mysql and reinstall the WAMP combo package?

I’m coming from .Net – I understand what PHP, MySQL does. Thought Apache was the equivalent to IIS. Not sure what WAMP does.

    Jess

No. WAMP = Windows, Apache, PHP, MySQL. 🙂

You do need PHP, MYSQL & Apache on your windows machine to be able to use wordpress. WAMP is a tool to make this process easy for you. If you need help then contact me.

Apache is equivalent to IIS. You are right. It’s just that without an integrated GUI it can be a bear to install and configure which is why there are various easy to install packages like WAMP and XAMPP.

It is worth noting that WAMP and XAMPP are by no means suitable for use in a production environment. They should be used for local development only.
