Request: Calculation by number of Items

Hi, is it possible to modify the plugin to calculate shipping costs by number of items?
Like 1 Item is 4.90, 2 Items is 6, 3 Items is 7.50 and so on.
In fact I doingf this by giving each am weight of 1KG, but I was wondering if there is a more elegant way to do so.
