When I make a post, I have exactly what I expect in my meta information in terms of Open Graph.

But when it comes to pages, I do not.

For Pages, even though I have a featured image (which on posts is used as the og:image), and both content text and an excerpt text, I miss both the og:image and the og:description.

What I would like to do is set a fallback for both, but also get pages to behave like posts.

Caveat: I am not a developer, so it’s very hard for me to understand talk of filters or understand what I’m meant to do with partial snippets of PHP. I find the Facebook plug-in a bit frustrating because as a plug-in, I really just expect it to be a plug and play type thing where I install it, click a few things and hit update and I get what I should reasonably expect. At the very core, a fallback image and description for my site seems to be a no brainer. That said, once I have a fallback, I want to be able to customize those things as well, the same way I can customize them when I write a post, with the onboard featured image functionality the plug-in is obviously listening to, and then the description from either the content or the excerpt.

Please help. I’ve made an attempt to try to figure this out before, but I feel like too much is being assumed from the other side in terms of my understanding of how the scripting works that is needed to do what I believe are basic things.

Open Graph protocol support for pages improved with the latest version of the Facebook plugin for WordPress. Make sure you’ve updated.

See the Open Graph protocol customization sticky thread for more information on customizing fallback images for your site. You will need to add a function in your theme or as a plugin and hook into the fb_meta_tags filter.

Your post excerpt is the best way to influence the story summary.
