Support » Plugin: WordPress Gallery Plugin - NextGEN Gallery » 2.0 – 2.0.17 Conflict With Register Plus Redux & wp_new_user_notification

  • Like most users, I, too, am having trouble with all NG versions AFTER 1.9.13, to include 2.0.17. Every version since 1.9.13 has broken Register Plus Redux, which I use to validate agreement responses to privacy and Scouting youth policies prior to granting access to parts of our site. The following error is displayed by RPR: “There is another active plugin that is conflicting with Register Plus Redux. The conflicting plugin is creating its own wp_new_user_notification function, this function is used to alter the messages sent out following the creation of a new user. Please refer to radiok.info for help resolving this issue.” The author has gone to great lengths to ensure he has a clean plugin, and gives specific instructions for authors of other plugins, to aid them in cleaning up their plugins. There is no reason why NG should be interferring with the wp_new_user_notification function. Please fix this IMMEDIATELY, and note that it has been resolved in the release notes.

    Thank you.

@schufford: I’ve added this to our list of known plugin conflicts. We’ll look into this when we can. I know it’s frustrating to have the conflict, but we’re generally trying to prioritize general issues with the plugin that affect many users before we tackle conflicts with third party plugins, unless those plugins are hugely popular ones. We should be shifting toward plugin conflicts in the near future. I’ll add your details/findings about this specific conflict and that should help us tackle it more quickly. Thanks (Erick)

Add another one to the list who has this exact same conflict. I too would really appreciate it if you could speed up fixing the conflict.

    Thanks

I also get this error and realized it after I had bought the Pro version because I did not get this error at first while testing the free version of the plugin.

    The error look as follow:
There is another active plugin that is conflicting with Register Plus Redux. The conflicting plugin is creating its own wp_new_user_notification function, this function is used to alter the messages sent out following the creation of a new user. Please refer to radiok.info for help resolving this issue.

Can you fix this as it is really important.

    Add me to the list.

Need a fix as soon as possible.

    I bought the Pro Version.

This appears to have been resolved in V2.0.30 of NextGEN Gallery, am I correct in that evaluation?

I don’t know if it’s been resolved, honestly. Soon after this issue popped up (I think when it was updated to 2.0.19), NextGEN started crashing my host’s server, taking down several other sites, in addition to my own. It was so bad, my host shut down my site, thinking I had been infected with a virus that was causing HUGE CPU cycle loads, bringing it down. I had to pay for a security audit and malware cleanup, and they couldn’t figure out where the infection was. But when they disabled my plugins, and have me access back to my site, I was able to link the issue to NGG. Too many problems, too slow to respond (though I realize I am a “free” user, and too costly in terms of money, time, resources, impact on others, and frustration… I started using the new, built-in gallery feature of WordPress. It is very easy, and straight-forward, and I have experienced no issues, since making the change.

Don’t get me wrong, the migration was a pain, having to download my old photos via ftp, and then re-uploading using the WordPress “Add Media” function, but all-in-all, it has been worth it. It isn’t difficult, just laborious. But, at some point one has to ask him/herself, “How much more time am I willing to continue to invest to implement, test, trouble-shoot, and support _this_ plugin?”

@schufford – To the best of our knowledge all of the major issues related to the high CPU / database overload issues have been addressed in our latest version (2.0.58), but thanks for taking the time to follow up with your experience and your solution.

We do appreciate the amount of time it can take to move to a new solution if that is what one’s choice is.

    Thanks!

    @cais:

No hard feelings. I do miss the slide-show widget, but I just could not justify all the work, and expense of keeping the plugin. While I used the free version, the damage it did to my host’s server cost me hundreds of dollars, and as a Boy Scout Troop, we just could not afford to continue down that path. I’m glad to read that you believe you have all the bugs worked out.

    Best of luck,
    -Craig
