A friend told me he was unable to subscribe to my blog via rss. I noticed recenty I have no rss feed icons anywhere on my site. I then added a rss widget to my sidebar. After this I got this message.
An error has occurred; the feed is probably down. Try again later.
Can anyone help me solve this? I've searched and found no solution.

If the blog you mean is:
http://www.randallhill.org/webblog/
Your default rss2 url works:
http://www.randallhill.org/webblog/?feed=rss2
You'll find it linked to under the Meta section in your sidebar. You also have several 'alternate' link tags to your feeds in your <head> which also seem fine to me.
I don't see a feed widget on your blog at present...

When I try to put the feed widget in I get this message
An error has occurred; the feed is probably down. Try again later.
This message occurs under the the feed icon. I took it out because of the error message. Would it help to put it back up?

Good news I figured it out. I had the wrong feed address on the icon.
