Support » Plugin: Theme My Login » Login/Logoff Does Work – Explained

  • Everything was working fine until a couple of release ago when the update changed the logon/logoff functionality in my menu.

Previously when someone logged on, the Log On text changed to Log Off and when they logged off, the Log Off text changed to Log On. It was perfect.

But all of a sudden Log On no longer changed to Log Off so I experimented with the widget with unhappy results.

However, I tackled the issue again and got it to work correctly.

    This is what I did:

    – In Appearance – Menus
Created a new menu called Menu
Added Log In (from list) to the menu

    In Menu Settings –
Selected Navigation Below Header (choose which one is appropriate for you)

    Save the Menu

The rest of my menu options are set up through my theme’s customizations and were not affected by the above changes.

    – Then I had a duplicate Log In page and there were two Log In buttons on the menu. The original Login page was /login and the new one was /log-in. I knew the log-in link was the correct one because it was changing to Log Off in my tests.

I deleted the login page which removed it from the menu and left the correct log-in link (pointing to the log-in page).

Apparently, the newer version of this plugin relies on the Login link being generated from the WordPress main menu (Appearance-Menus) whereas the older version didn’t. It used to work fine when I did not generate it from that menu.

I was worried that messing with the WordPress menu would mess up the other menu settings in my theme customization but it didn’t.

So, if it is not working for you, try what I did. It works!
