   Would think this would be easily added to the core, rather than as a plugin.

   Plugin seems to be a overkill for this. Should be possible to insert a line to display the favicon by editing the appropriate php file.

   @srikat Yes, of course you could insert the line into the correct php file in the wp-admin folder. Of course, every time you upgrade you'd have to reinsert the code. Even if it was hardcoded into the php file by the Wordpress team, if you wanted a custom favicon you'd have to re-edit the code with every upgrade.

   The plugin just lets you keep your custom favicon without having to keep editing the admin php.
