Running multiple installs of WP from same location (2 posts)

I am on a typical WHM/Cpanel setup and I would like to have ONE singular install of WHM that i can use for all my different domains.

In the MT land, I used to be able to do this with setting environment variables and setting up aliases:

In WP land, it seems my suggested option is WP MU. If possible, I'd like to stick with the main WP because all plugins at least work, and it's easier to understand and configure.

Can I do that VirtualHost type domain-by-domain setup with WP main as well? Anyone experimented with it yet, and if so, what environment variables do we need to setup?

    Thanks

I can only point you to resources (because I've not had need of it) on some of the ways that exist out there for implementing a standard WordPress installation so it behaves like a multi-blog setup.
