JetPack Publicize creating malformed links in facebook

    Using JetPack v2.3.5

    Since yesterday, I think, links produced by Publicize and pushed to my facebook page are malformed. Essentially, they seem to be missing out categories (which are part of the permalink path structure) and include a facebook suffix.

    I think the suffix is usually there, anyway, but is normally hidden.

    As an example, if I were to post an article with the URL:

    http://www.moshville.co.uk/news/2013/08/test-4/

    …then the related facebook post has a link such as:

    http://www.moshville.co.uk/2013/08/test-4/?fb_source=pubv1

    I have removed and re-added my facebook account from the Publicize settings (as detailed elsewhere), which did not help. I also checked and clicked “Save Settings” in my General and Permalink settings in WordPress, just in case they needed a “nudge”.

    At least I have spotted that I’m not alone with this problem, and that it affects Twitter as well (though I don’t use that function so wouldn’t have spotted it myself), so at least I know it’s not an issue with facebook itself.

    To follow on, I’ve another blog which is publishing via Publicize just fine. However, it’s not using a “complex” permalink – just dates plus article title.

    Both blogs are running on the same server, but discrete databases/instances of WP.

    Hey Jeremy,

    Thanks for your help so far. Just wanted to add a litte more data. I did a couple of tests with just a video this morning. All I changed was the Permalink settings. The links changed but they both still go to a 404.

    The post that actually pulled an image pulled the wrong one. On a side note I recently changed from a theme that used Feature Images (Genesis Framework) to one that does not (TwentyThirteen), at least it doesn’t require it so I don’t use it. I still insert an image at the top of the post in the article body.

    Mr Chunks,

    I think the image thing is unrelated and possibly a facebook issue. I’ve found recently that if I copy a URL from the address bar of my browser and paste it in as part of a new post on facebook, it sometimes doesn’t pull an image through.

    JetPack/WordPress would have nothing to do with this, would it?

    As an aside, Google+ is even worse for doing this and often leaves “broken link” icons which, when clicked, take you to the image so the links most certainly aren’t broken.

    If I manually post a link to the article into Facebook it will pull all the data and work correctly as far as posting the correct link. It will also pull an image whether or not on is associated with the post. The test posts I did this morning don’t have images associated with the posts so I’m not sure why Facebook and or JetPack chose the random images.

    Hey everybody. We’re having the exact same problem on our Unreality TV site. We use categories as part of our permalink setup, and when Publicize posts these to the Facebook page, it’s dropping the category from the link. Here’s the link to our Facebook page (the links that *do* work are from a separate WordPress install where permalinks are simply post_title).

    Obviously changing our permalink structurwe at this stage is not an option. Is it worth backtracking to an earlier version of Jetpack?
