Support » Fixing WordPress » 404 Page When Browsing A File In a Sub-Folder

  • Hello,

My WP has a sub-folder inside it which contains another PHP application. When I try to visit a specific file inside that folder, WP is sending me to my root wp 404 page.

    Ex.

    http://www.example.com/app/test.php

Sends me to my http://www.example.com/ 404 page.

Other files inside the sub-folder serve up fine, it is just one specific filename.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

  • might be you are using some security plugin like disable directory listing . Check if you have unauthorized access to that specific url .

Check to see if the file exists on the server. Regardless, this forum is for supporting WordPress, not for custom applications. Is there a particular reason why you believe WordPress is causing this error?

WP doesn’t work that way. Having another app in a sub-folder within the WP installation is going to serve a 404. You would need to create a rule in your .htaccess to allow the script to run without interference from WP 🙂
