    Hi

The UK Royal Mail has postage costs based on item weight and dimensions – ie taken into consideration together. They have set dimensions for letter (with various weight ranges), large letter (with various weight ranges), small parcel (with various weight ranges) and medium parcel (with various weight ranges).

Since this is the case, which way should I allocate a postage cost to each particular item we are selling?

I initially set 4 shipping modes, one for letter, large letter, small parcel and medium parcel, with UK, EU, Int’al as zones within those modes, but that wasn’t working out exactly as I’d thought.

Not being able to get my head around this, are there any other UK eshop users who would be willing to tell me how they have set up their shipping charges, or might the author (who has created a really great plugin by the way) tell me how I might get around this. I guess it can’t be a huge problem for others, as I can’t find any posts asking that same question.

    Thanks

  • Try using Method 4 – ship by weight.

Yes, thanks for reply – that was what I initially tried, but it didn’t seem to work out – something along the lines of Method 4 with classes (which could represent the dimensions) would be best for this situation I think. This would work best if there were many classes that could be created, not just 5.

Anyway, I’ve had a look at method 1 – if someone ordered one item from class 1, and one item from class 2 during the same transaction, what would happen to the delivery cost. Would they be simply added together? If so it would appear to get very expensive?

Would they be simply added together?

Yes. That’s how shipping by weight works.

Yes, but no so good for the overall cost of postage. I have a feeling eshop won’t work in this instance.

    Thanks for reply.
