install.php file downloads to my hard drive

I have a new domain to which I want to move my backed-up database and WP content files. But when I try to open wp-admin/install.php on Firefox, it opens in another window onto my hard drive, and when I try to open it in Safari (I’m on Mac 10.4.11), it says the file is an application and offers to download it. What gives?
