Georg –
We’ve seen major issues like this mostly from plugin conflicts. Any way you could send us a list of which plugins you have installed?
Thanks,
Erick

@gkaefer: You have several on there with conflicts, but the culprit is almost certainly Member Access. We’ve had several reports of people updating alongside that plugin getting errors and white screens front/back.
We can’t guarantee total compatibility, but we obviously don’t want conflicts causing site crashes. So any plugin conflict that has this effect has been given top priority.
For now, you’d need to decided between deactivating Member Access, or rolling back to NextGEN 1.9.13 until we resolve the conflict. We’ve already solve several, and I’d hope we’d do that either in the next release (this coming week), or the release after.
By the way, from your list, I’ve also seen conflict reports for Dynamic To Top and Fast Secure Contact form. Those conflicts are not nearly as serious as far as we can tell.
You can keep up to date on plugin conflicts here:

Thanks.
thanks for your help.
after deactivating member-access I could install nextgen Gallery 2.0 without causing a sitecrash.
I had addionally to deactivate Highslide plugin to get back Access to my admin mouseover menu entries.
