Trouble with Fashionistas template

I downloaded this template and expected my site to mirror it. However, there is no navigation across the top and no way to add an intro photo. My dumb looking site has no horizontal navigation across the top and a great big white space where there should be an image. I’ve tried do many different things to get an image on the intro-portion of the site, (to make it look like the template sample photo), but all it allows me to do it “add a page” and put an image on the “added page” which it includes down beneath the site into page – (which still has the big blank space where I’m trying to add my image) Someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong.
