[resolved] 1.5.2.5 won't activate (12 posts)

I have two WP sites, both running this software. The earlier versions broke one of the sites until 1.5.2.5, which finally worked. Now the other site won't activate with 1.5.2.5. Not sure how to proceed. Or whether to trust upgrades as long as things are working.

It happened to me too Suzchiles. You're not alone. My visual editor and everything on the draft page is frozen.

Could you have a look at your PHP error log and provide the errors you find ?
If you don't have an error log, here are instructions on how to create one:

Without those errors these kind of things are nearly impossible to debug.

This is what I got from the error log on Safari on one page I was trying to edit where everything was frozen - visual editor as well as SEO. When I deactivated the plug in, everything worked (except for the SEO, which was deactivated). Reactivating it froze everything up again. I posted on Github. Is this the info you need or do I need to dig down further? (more below the coding)

jrf, I went to your link and that is so over my head! Can my safari Develop voice give you all the information you need? If so, tell me what it is and I'll do my best?

Hi @suzchiles, you can probably find the culprit for your current issue. In your case it should be obvious because you installed this plugin on two websites. One works and the other doesn't work

    Simple workout solution....

    1) Are both sites running the same theme?

    2) Do both sites have the same plugins installed?

    3) Are both sites on the same server or are they in different servers with the same host or on different Host?

The above should help you troubleshoot why. Also don't forget to include the PHP error log as mentioned by @jrf

    Kind regards

@divinelightvibrations you are hijacking a thread with quite a different problem (site not working at all versus visual editor not working). Please open your own thread.

jrf, I went to your link and that is so over my head! Can my safari Develop voice give you all the information you need? If so, tell me what it is and I'll do my best?

For the original problem: sorry, no it can't. Safari can only tell you what's happening on the client side (i.e. the browser). What I was asking for was what's happening on the server side.
The link I gave actually contains quite a lot of extra information helping you to get it working. If anything is unclear, just add a comment to the gist and I will clarify and adjust to the code/instructions to make it clearer. That will also help others.

Okay, sorry about the hijack - I didn't realize that's what I was doing.

I'm going to try to find someone with more tech knowledge to look at this. For me to start touching a php. file would be like sending in a gorilla to pick out fine china. It just doesn't make sense. I'll do my best to find someone and, again, I apologize.

Maybe I should try to take down my post on Github. I probably had no business going there... the road to chaos is paved to good intentions?

Nah.. that's how we all start... ;-) I presume you did edit the wp-config.php file before for the database credentials ? Then you've already edited a php file ;-)
Just make sure you make a backup before you do anything, then you can always revert back to how it was before.

GitHub is for bug reports and real bug reports are definitely welcome.
I'm not sure based on the current information whether what you are experiencing is a real bug or something else. Until we figure that out, I'd leave the issue open.

It seem like this problem are your server host. try to delete the plugin folder then logout from your phpmyadmin or else, then come back after an hour for waiting your server cooldown, then upload manually wordpress seo plugin via ftp.

I guest you are running your wordpress on shared hosting, it's sometime happen to me when I'm gone crazy to editing the old entry post with bulk editor. And if you are using XML Sitemap, make sure disable news seo plugin, I don't know how this are connected but for my all problem are solve when I'm disabling news seo from Joast, no offend Joast just saying my experience here.

I don't know if this information will help or not. But it did fix my activation issue on both sites (different themes, different frameworks, not shared, same hosting company). I installed and activated another competing SEO product. I then deactivated it. After that, on both sites, WordPress SEO activated and is now working perfectly.

Hi @Suzchiles, that is good news.

Perhaps you can share with us which SEO plugin you used to help you fix your issue.

If your issue is resolved can you mark this support thread as resolved.

    Thank you

I used all-in-one SEO. After that was working, then I was able to switch that off and activate WordPress SEO, which I do prefer.
