Please Help! Suddenly when i go into the theme editor and i try to edit any of the sheets they dont work. I cant get to any of the pages, the only one that keeps popping up is ie6.css - no other sheet works. The other day a support member at bluehost added a php.ini file to my cpanel in my wp-contents folder. I have asked them if this is causing the file and they said it is not and that I need to find out from someone at WP.

Please someone help me and tell me what to do. I really need to get in and edit some things and I can't. The website is beersandbeans.com and i'm using the cutline theme.

    Thanks!

You need to work through methodically. Unless you have just updated WP then that isn't the problem. The problem will be something else that has just changed.
    1. Previous edits on your theme (unlikely)
    2. The changes your ISP just made.

You need to ask them what the file is for and/or post a copy here so we can see what likely impact it might have.

    update:

today i got in touch w/ the guy who made this change and he said he removed all those files. My site appears fine but i still cannot get at any of the other style sheets. They are saying it is a wordpress issue - is anyone else having this problem? Also I have tried it in IE, firefox and safari - same problem all around

    he removed all those files.

He removed all what files? In your previous post you stated he added ONE file now he is removing several? You need to be specific and detailed in the info you provide.
When editing files it is important to make back-ups and to keep track of exactly what you have done, so you can undo it if necessary.

Does the site work with the theme you were editing?
Does it work with default theme (or any other unedited theme)?
Do you get an error message? If so what exactly?

Sorry for the confusion. I was under the impression that he removed them all now.

The site does work and I can move widgets around however, I can't get into any of the style sheets to edit them, w/ the exception of the ie6.css sheet, which is the first one on the list in the theme editor. When I try to click on any of the other sheets to edit them (like stylesheet, footer, header, etc) it doesn't change and just stays on the ie6.css page. I also went back to the default theme like you suggested and I still have the same problem but it stays on the rtl.css page (which is the first one on the default list).

However under my theme tab it does say: "The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template." Then it says the stylesheet is missing. However it doesn't give a name for the theme they are talking about. It shows this error in the cutline theme i am using and the default theme.

Additionally when I first go to my website it gives this warning at the top:

Warning: ob_start() [ref.outcontrol]: output handler 'ob_gzhandler' cannot be used after 'URL-Rewriter' in /home/beersand/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 408

and then the site looks a little screwy, however when i click on a different page and go back to the front page it disappears and looks normal again. However, i still can't get into edit any of the theme pages.

    Thanks again!!

I'm sorry, i meant to say i was under the impression that he only put in one file (under the wp-content/gallery folder) but he told me yesterday he put the file in every folder i had.

As a rule of thumb: don't edit anything online - there is no UNDO button...

For the error: go admin > Options > Reading and at the bottom uncheck the "WordPress should compress articles (gzip) if browsers ask for them" box. Does it help?

Thanks for replying. I did what you suggested and it didn't change anything. On top of not being able to change my stylesheets I also cannot edit my plugins. No matter which one i choose to edit, it reverts right back to the first one on the list and that is the only one i can access.

Let me know if you have any other ideas!! Thanks ;)

Either you have broken something by editing it incorrectly or your host has caused this with the php.ini file.
    1. have you checked that this php.ini file has in fact been removed from all the folders?
    2. Did you install WP to the server yourself (upload files with an FTP) or is it a "one click install" version supplied as part of your hosting package?

I will go thru now and see if it is still in anywhere. It was a 1 click install and was working fine until just a week or so ago.
