I want to have a transparent background throughout my site so that my background image shows through, and I’ve managed to set that correctly using an ‘opacity’ setting of .8.

However, it also makes my uploaded images translucent, and that will not do.

I’ve tried everything I can think of to make only the background transparent — not the images– but cannot figure it out. I know it’s possible because I’ve seen it on other websites, but looking at their stylesheets hasn’t helped, as their theme settings vary so much from my own (and I’m a css newbie).

Tired of spending hours on this — can anyone help?

  • That’s how CSS works – opacity is inherited by contained elements. You can instead use a transparent background image.

    Wow. Just wow.

    (Palm slapping forehead repeatedly).

I don’t know why I didn’t think of that, but that worked beautifully.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been struggling with this for a couple of weeks. I appreciate your help!
