• I have been using the Motion theme for years now but it has not been maintained or updated for over 2 years and is missing some of the newer features.

I’ve created a new theme called Motion Reloaded, changed a bit of css, created a few extra page templates, fixed a strange <pagetitle> problem and updated the main code to offer all the features of WP v3 (changeable background, top menu, header image etc).

I Know it’s fine to use the changed theme on my own site but I’m not that good with licences and I can’t find an email address for the original theme author.

I wanted to know if it is OK (within the terms of the GPL license) to upload the updated theme to WordPress? It’s a nice theme and it’s a shame to see it die.

I wait to be schooled in the GPL licence….

As the original theme was released under GPL, I don’t see why there should be any issue. It would nice to give the original author a mention in the new theme’s stylesheet comment area or perhaps the theme’s readme.txt file but, other than that, I’d suggest you go ahead and submit your version.
