  • Looks like adware. Can you link (URL) to your site?

    hey, thanks.
    It’s at http://songspursuit.com/

Scanning your site does not show any malware/ hack. But adware, and similar intrusions do not often get caught by tools scanning infections and malware. Here is your scan report:

However, the link quoted by you is definitely an indication of some intrusion. Can be even either from your own computer or browser. The other possibilities are plugins (deactivate all and check) and your themes (change to default theme and check).

Is it just your site or does the same thing happen on links on other sites you visit? I visited your site and I didn’t notice anything unusual when I clicked on a link. Perhaps you got some extension or plugin installed on your browser without you realizing it. Check out your browser’s extensions/plugsins and remove anything that doesn’t look like it belongs.

Krishna – How do I change to default theme without losing the customizations I already did to my present theme?

CrouchingBruin – I checked my extensions in my Chrome browser (nothing unusual). I actually suspected it’s probably some malware (and those similar intrusions) on my computer – so I did a scan, and so far nothing similar crops up.

If you change to a different theme (like the default TwentyTwelve), you should be able to switch back to your original theme without losing anything. Just go to Appearances > Themes and click the Activate for the Twenty Twelve theme (or Twenty Eleven, if you have an older install of WordPress). See if you have the same behavior being exhibited, as far as the strange links go. When you’re ready to switch back, click the Activate link for your customized theme.

What if the same thing exhibits itself when I use a different theme (like the one you suggested when using Twenty Twelve)?

It’s a troubleshooting step and it will show if it is theme related. If the trouble still exists, we have to look for other causes.
