Support » Fixing WordPress » Download file link

  • Hello,
I’m quite new to this and so don’t understand some of the jargon. Essentially what I want to do is very simple, but I can’t seem to find the docs to do it….

I have uploaded a file onto my server (www.mysite.com/blog/videos/myvideo.mov), and I would like to create a link on a post to download this file and not just open the link.
ie. when you click the link you are prompted to Save file on your local computer, much like when you wish to download iTunes or similar.

I’m sure this can be done, and I expect I am doing this completely the wrong way, but like I said earlier, I’m new to this!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers

  • Create a post and in the visual editor, use the link button. This will pop up a window with the link info.

Paste the link http://www.mysite.com/blog/videos/myvideo.mov into the window and close.

The link is now in your post. You might like to advise, “right click to save” or similar. It will depend on the plugins installed on the visitors’ browser as to the action from just clicking the link – some will prompt for “save as” and others will launch a player.
