• Hey,

Sorry, I am a bit of anewbie with WordPress, so perhaps my question is due to my own lack of knowledge.

I am very happy with this extension as it is useful in track activity on my site. However, the logging of country and languages of which is also shown on the map is not entirely correct. I have users from most of Europe, but almost all of them are logged and visualized as coming from England. It is correct (I am assumin on this one) if you look at the language settings most users are using for their operating systems and browsers (English), but not correct for illustrating where the connection is really made from. My question is how this information is identified and whether there are tweaking options in order to make this more suitable for actually seeing where people connect from rather than the browser/system settings they are using?

    Cheers
    Aprox

Country/language detected are the one that WordPress gives (by his API).

A better country/language detection is done if you have ip2nation table installed into wordpress (it uses IP to get the country).

I planned an integration of ip2nation into a future updated, so you don’t need to install external table.

Regarding the maps, unfortunately the new Google API is not full compatible with the previous and there are some problems for mapping the detected data to the map (a solution is being study).

    Ok, thanks 🙂

Looking forward to the version where this is included. Keep up the good work 🙂

Btw, a possible suggestion for extended features:
It would be good to have a better overview over activity of registered users. Possibly who logged on and when, what activities they did, locations and addresses they logged on from, browser/systems they use etc. I don’t meant this as a feature to spy, but rather as a feature to ensure that we optimalize wordpress to the users. E.g. brower types to support, mobile vs desktop, what pages are most visited, when are the peaks and how many logins do we have etc. Also, it would give us a chance to identify more details in the case when an account has been abused or hacked.

    Cheers

    hi,

I had already some logged users related requests to implement, so I will add even this to the quee of task to implement

    Hi ice00.
I just installed NewStatPress on several WP websites and I am having the same problems that ‘aprox’ was having.
In the “Countries/Languages” map under “Details”, the information shows all visitors coming from just three countries: “EN, RU and ZH”. I know this is not right because the “Spy” data shows many other countries.
Then I installed the WP “ip2nation” plugin, but this did not change things.
All visitor data still shows everyone coming from “EN, RU and ZH”.

I did a normal “install” and “activate” for the “ip2nation” plugin. Is there something else that has to be done to make it work with NewStatPress? I am using WP 3.8.13.3.
Any other suggestions to get the country data to display correctly?
    Thanks.

ip2nation improve country language detection (so the one you see for example in Spy), but the true problem is that the Google API need different kind of data for works.

A solution will be to extend the database for having both language and country separated, but this will be increase database size

    Thanks for your response ice00.
I would like to see accurate stats on the Maps graph, so would encourage you to make this change.
I was using the WP StatSurfer plugin and it seems to capture the visitor information correctly for the Maps view.
You might look at the StatSurfer plugin to see how they are capturing this data. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

    Thanks.

    Ok,

I will try to go into this direction

    ice00,
I have three websites and have installed the WP-IP2Nation-Installer plugin on all of them. They all seem to be correctly saving the map data now.
Did you make some changes, or does the map data work on some websites, but not all websites?
I like your plugin, and if this issue has been fixed, I will make a donation.

Not changes are publically released (I have to test them before apply a change).

The improve you see is that IP2Nation get better result of browsers nation detection, so map is more accurate regarding some country that the google API accepted as good.

I let you know when modification are ready
