I switched this to a test page so the error would not be public.

If you’re getting the “unable to find document” error then yes, it is Google being unreliable at the moment. It seems to be affecting a lot of people, though most sites are unaffected (including my own). Just have to sit this one out while they work out their issues.

In the meantime I can view the PDF well on that page using the current version of Firefox as it embeds the pdf viewer of the browser. Other or older browsers may not work as well though (especially if the Reader plugin isn’t installed).

    Thanks for the quick response.

I do not think this is the “unable to find document” error. Maybe?

I did read a lot of your forums and followed many suggestions.

In my case it is not showing up in the GDE but seems to load. Then blank. No error. If I click on the toolbar to show in a new window it appears fine full screen.

    Is this the same error?

I also see some errors on the page but it does not make sense after a day of troubleshooting.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

No, I don’t think this is the same issue. When I go to that URL I see the document embedded normally.

I expect the issue you’re having is much more simple and just related to either browser cache or cookies. Try clearing your browser cache (or using a browser you don’t normally use), and also try logging out of any active Google account logins. (You can then log back in if you wish, but this will reset any stale Google account logins which can interfere with loading the viewer.)

Let me know if you need more help.

    Kevin

Lately I can see the PDFs I’ve embedded if I’m logged into Google. If I switch to a different browser, or am not logged in, I don’t see the PDF. So I’m guessing that Google changed something (in the API?) and maybe the plugin needs to be changed to accommodate this. You may need to communicate with Google about it, if you haven’t already. Thanks.

    Hi there,

Please check out the documentation here. I am able to view documents whether logged in or logged out, but there is some weird behavior with the way Google handles logins, so you may actually not be either of those…

I have created an app with Quickapp for WordPress. I have a pdf in my blog that is displaying perfectly in wordpress but only shows a blank page in the App.
I think it is same problem that Loopster D had 9 months ago. Any solution yet?

Do you see anything, including only a download link (if applicable) or an error message? Or nothing at all?

Please check the Notes page linked to above which may provide the answer to your specific situation, or provide some more info here, such as an example link.

    Thanks.

Worked fine…. and then, with no change on my part, the documents aren’t displaying when I choose “media file”. If I choose “attachment page” then everything is the same… but the “media file” has a big blank spot where the document should be loading and showing equivalent to the size normally taken by the document. The option to click on download *.pdf, is still there, and it will display, (same as the attachment page). This is something that just happened in the last few days.

    Hello –

I have been using the plugin just fine for a while now
    http://www.educationcompany.com/academic-behavior-card/

However, recently when I attempted to install it on a new page, it will not work. The only setting difference I want it to add a download link at the bottom. Any idea what is going on ?

    http://www.educationcompany.com/hope2/

This is the code I am using. . .
    [gview file=”https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12076384/EDCO%20PDFs/EDCO%20and%20HOPE.pdf” page=”undefined” save=”1″]

You appear to be using the private documents feature with these documents. There is by definition no way to show a download link on private documents. You’re not specifying a profile in your shortcode (the secure profile is normally profile=”2″) so you may have overwritten the default profile.

Do you want the bulk of your documents to be completely private (unable to be downloaded) or just without a download link displayed? If you have your settings as you want them for the majority of your documents, I would suggest the following:

    1) In GDE Settings, go to the Profiles tab and create a new profile based on the “dark” theme (if you haven’t deleted or changed it). Name it something like “enhanced-not-private” or whatever to your liking.

    2) From the settings on that profile, remove the value under Custom CSS so that you don’t actually use the dark theme colors, but all other features.

    3) On the profiles page, note the name or ID number of it (probably 4 if you haven’t deleted or created any others).

    4) Change your shortcode to reference that specific profile on any document for which you want to provide a download, such as:

    [gview file="https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12076384/EDCO%20PDFs/EDCO%20and%20HOPE.pdf" profile="4"]

Note that Google dropped support of the page= attribute, so it is no longer supported in GDE. You do not need to specify save="1" either so long as the profile you choose is configured to allow downloads.

You’re in a little bit of a confusing state here so I hope this helps. Another option is to remove and reinstall GDE to get back the profiles as they were delivered, but I would not recommend this if you made your other documents under the “maximum security” profile on purpose. If you only meant to hide the download link on the others, but did not care necessarily to use “maximum security,” then this may be a good option since you could handle both situations with one shortcode if you wanted to.

    Thanks!

    Let me make it simple:

I want the default setting (1) with the ability to download.

This is the setting I am using, but it is still not working.
