I recently changed my WordPress.com site to a self hosted site with WordPress.org.
I installed the Oxygen theme, which is very different from the WordPress.com version.

I’ve resolved the Home Page Slider issues I was having. However, now my home page only has the ‘Featured’ posts, and others which I had to manually mark as ‘Primary’ for them to show up under ‘Recent Articles’.

Where are all my previous posts under ‘More Articles’? Will I have to manually change every previous post to ‘Secondary’ for them to appear on the Home Page?? Going forward will I have to edit every single previous post, as I add newer ones for them to move down the home page??

    Please help!

  • To not use theme’s way of showing post based on user picked location, you have to override the page-template-front.php in child theme.

    Child themes

and modify the query args to your own.

    Hey Paul, thanks for replying.
My apologies if I don’t understand right off the bat, I’m not too great with CSS and the technical stuff.

To clarify: The theme actually did what I wanted on WP.com. However, after the migrate, it’s like none of my previous posts will show up, unless I manually mark each and every single previous post from 2 years ago as ‘secondary’ for it to show up under ‘More Articles’.

So I was asking if there’s no way around that? Otherwise my site will only consist of my new posts, with no access for anyone to my archived posts.

This has nothing to do with CSS at all. This is how theme works internally. These 2 themes are different, they only look the same from the outside.

The Oxygen theme here offers more flexibility for users to pick the location of the post to appear on front page. This is better than using tag or cat, think of how many times you see users ask for include, exclude. So theme separates the use of cat/tag from the post location.

Otherwise my site will only consist of my new posts, with no access for anyone to my archived posts.

Content that’s not featured in the front page still reachable via menus. You can make links to archives in menus. Theme even comes with an archive page template.

    Hey Paul,
You’re right. Absolutely right. And talking out loud about this with you has actually made me realize that it’s not that big a deal and that I can figure out ways that are different from the way the theme worked in Wodpress.com, which might actually enhance my site.

    Thanks for all the feedback!

    Hi Shas Shadid,

How do you do to create the homepage with the slider ?

    Thanks for your answer
